Press Release

JOIN BLUE BRIDGE FOR THE 2023 SUMMER SEASON OPENER GOODNIGHT DESDEMONA, (GOOD MORNING JULIET)

For Immediate Release: Victoria, BC (February 9, 2023)

Victoria, BC – Opening on April 25, Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre is looking forward to welcoming audiences back to Victoria’s Roxy Theatre for the Canadian Classic Goodnight Desdemona, (Good Morning
Juliet).

Written by Ann Marie MacDonald, one of Canada’s most acclaimed writers, the play tells the story of Constance Ledbelly, an English professor at Queen’s University, as she seeks to prove her thesis: that Romeo and Juliet and Othello were originally comedies written by an unknown author. This hilarious play is sure to reignite your sense of imagination as it brings to life the worlds and characters of Shakespeare’s
canon, and turns them on their heads.

In her directing debut with Blue Bridge, Artistic Director Tamara McCarthy is excited to bring this
hilarious classic to life. “It’s an iconic piece to be my debut with the company, I couldn’t be more thrilled… – and so, I think, is the community,” says McCarthy. “People are excited about this play.”

Playing an array of Shakespearean characters are Keara Barnes, Danica Charlie, Pedro Siquera, Isaac Li, and Lucy McNulty as Constance Ledbelly, a character with more lines than Hamlet. “There’s so much happening in it that actors need to be incredibly dextrous and I’m excited for the audience to see that. To see the talent that’s been assembled – both with the cast and the designers – and to see what magic we can conjure up,” says MacCarthy.

Alongside McCarthy, this production’s creative team is composed of set designer Graham McMonagle,
costume designer Yi Misty Buxton, lighting designer Rebekah Johnson, and sound designer
Carl Keys.

Added McCarthy, “Ann-Marie MacDonald has created a masterpiece… There are not many Canadian women playwrights who get to be in the classic canon. This play is really a defining point in Canadian feminist history… You won’t be able to leave the theatre and dismiss the women that are involved in this; they’re going to be standing out.”

Goodnight Desdemona, (Good Morning Juliet) runs April 25-May 7, 2023. For More information about the full 2023 Summer Season, including tickets visit: Blue Bridge Theatre or by calling 250-382-3370. Tickets are available for both in-person and streamed theatre experiences.
