Tamara McCarthy Joins Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre As Artistic Director
November 15, 2022: Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre is excited to announce that Tamara McCarthy will be joining the company as its new Artistic Director. McCarthy is a multiple award winning artist, and comes to Blue Bridge fresh from the stage in the company’s current production of Around the World in 80 Days.
McCarthy began her career in 1996 with Boca del Lupo Theatre Society, which she co-founded as a recent graduate of Simon Fraser University’s Contemporary Arts program. She has since grown as a theatre-maker and educator – most recognizable for her work in the greater Vancouver area. Her credits include involvement with The Fox Queen, Bard on the Beach, Pacific Coast Stage Company, Radix, Chemainus Theatre Festival, and Slamming Door Artists’ Collective, among many others, and is the winner of multiple Jessie Awards, a Joey award, the 2021 John Moffat and Larry Lillo Award, and the Bill Millerd Artist Fund Award.
She succeeds Brian Richmond, Blue Bridge’s founding artistic director, who had been with the company since 2008. Under his direction, Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre has drawn more than 100,000 audience members to its events and shows, presented over 40 award-winning productions and events and offered more than 400 early career opportunities to young theatre artists. Blue Bridge has injected more than $8 million directly into sustaining and supporting the Victoria arts community.
“I bring to Blue Bridge my core values of collaboration, listening, and uplifting the voices of marginalized artists. I look forward to collaborating with artists, designers, audience, and the Victoria community and, with a wide range of theatre skills as a Director, Performer, Producer, Dramaturg, and Educator, continuing my journey here as a life-long learner. Actively focused on the work of decolonizing my life and artistic practices, I step into the Artistic Director role guided by these values.” ~Tamara McCarthy
