FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: , Monday March 28 , 2022
Victoria, BC: Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre will unveil their full list of cast and creative teams for their 2022 four play summer season on Tuesday March 29 at 2pm. The company will also announce that this will be the last season under the leadership of their Artistic Director, Brian Richmond, who was the founder of Blue Bridge in 2008. With the sale of the Roxy Theatre and resultant financial surplus for the society, Mr. Richmond has determined that now is an optimal time to pass on the reins to a new AD, effective August of 2022.
“Mr. Richmond’s tenure as AD will be fondly remembered not only for his incredible vision for the company, but also for his tireless contributions of time and effort, and dedication to providing opportunities for new and established artists alike.” states Board President Evan Roberts. “Under his leadership, Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre has gained a reputation both locally and nationally as a company dedicated to producing top-quality productions of the great classics from the European and North American theatre traditions.”
“Like the theatre, life has its seasons” says Richmond. “My season with Blue Bridge began nearly 15 years ago and I can honestly state that I have enjoyed each and every one of our more than 70 productions we created with an incredible range of artists – all of which was made possible by the wonderfully supportive Victoria audiences and donors.”
“In its essence, theatre is about the present and not the past -” Richmond continues. “So it is with great excitement and pride that I would like to share with you the names of all the artists that we have enlisted to bring to life the four wonderful plays of this, my final season.”
Starting April 26 – May 8 will be I, Claudia by Kristen Thompson – a modern Canadian classic that details the trauma of adolescence. This will be followed from May 31 – June 12 by the 19th century early feminist masterpiece Hedda Gabler by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. Up next from July 5-17 is a farce which skewers the forces of inflation – They Won’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! by Italian playwright Dario Fo; and the season closes with the homecoming of the Victoria-born Off-Broadway hit musical Ride The Cyclone by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell from August 2 -14.
Full cast and creative teams will be unveiled at the season launch on Tuesday. All are welcome and wine and refreshments will be provided by Cherry Point Winery and Last Minute Caterers.
As to the future, a committee of board members and diverse contributing artists has been assembled and, with the full board, they will be selecting a new Artistic Director in the coming months, with plans to announce the successful candidate this summer.
