he first offering in Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre’s new 2013 ‘Dream Season’ is playwright Dean Reagan’s musical homage to a woman who many still consider the greatest country and western vocalist of all time – Patsy Cline.
Having played to rave reviews in theatres across North America since its debut at Vancouver’s Arts Club in 1982, A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline is a musical cabaret that features some of the Virginia songbird’s greatest hits including I Fall to Pieces, Walkin After Midnight, Sweet Dreams and, of course, her most enduring classic written by the young Willy Nelson, Crazy.
Bringing together a dream team that includes the uber talented Sara-Jeanne Hosie in the role of Patsy Cline and one of Victoria’s favourite comic actors Wes Borg in the role of Little Big Man, Director Brian Richmond promises a new take on the country legend than those seen recently at both the Chemainus Festival and the Arts Club Theatre in Vancouver.
Helping Richmond put this new take on an old legend together are Set and Costume Designer Patricia Reilly, Lighting Designer Rebekah Johnson, Nico Rhodes as Music Director, Graham Roebuck as Sound Designer and Treena Stubel (from Atomic Vaudeville’s Ride-The-Cyclone & BBRT’s Little Shop of Horrors)as Choreographer. Apart from Borg and Hosie (who Victoria audiences will remember for her recent starring role in the BBRT smash hit Little Shop of Horrors and the Belfry Theatre’s 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee), this show will see the return of fiddler Sarah Tradewell, bassist Clarke Brendon and steel guitarist Nathan Tinkham from BBRT’s previous smash hit musical Hank Williams – the show he never gave. They will be joined by James McRae on drums and Michael van der Kamp as Announcer and on synthesizer.
